Jets baseball wins another district title

IRONWOOD — The Jeffers Jets baseball team had to travel to Ironwood to play in the District 97 tournament. They came away with the trophy again.

The Jets defeated the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers to advance to the championship to play the Gogebic Miners. Gogebic and Jeffers tied and shared the Copper Mountain Conference regular season championship. The matchup also highlighted the Pitcher of the Year, C.J. Waino, from Gogebic, against the MVP, Cody Turner, from Jeffers.

The Jets jumped out to a 2-1 lead after three innings and kept adding runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, increasing their lead to 6-1.

Turner outdueled Waino by recording 12 strikeouts and allowing five hits. On offense, Turner was intentionally walked 4 times, which required other players to step up. Brogan Turner was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI, Blake Heltunen was 2-for-4 with a RBI, and Pierce Johnson went 2-for-3.
