Erickson Feed Seed and Dean Kangas State Farm earn wins

SOUTH RANGE — In Portage Lake Little League Minors action on Wednesday, Erickson Feed Seed and Pet Supply out hit Houghton Fire Department, and Dean Kangas State Farm came from behind to down 1902 Tap and Grill.

The boys from Erickson Feed Seed and Pet Supply just needed the first two innings to score nine runs and earn a victory over Houghton Fire Department.
The hit parade began with a bang in the top of the first with a home run slugged by lead-off hitter Nolan Latendresse. Then came base raps by Clark Larson and Kiefer Mechlin. They both scored as did Mikko Randell to make it 4-0 lead.
The hit parade continued didn’t stop there for Erickson. They tacked on five more. It was Latendresse who stayed hot — this time with a double. Hart earned his way on with a single as did Eli Mayo. They all scored along with Larson who was hit by a pitch and Mechlin. It was now a 9-0 game for the boys in black.
Houghton Fire avoided the shutout by scoring four in the fourth. However, that is as good as it got as Erickson shut them down in the final two frames for the victory.
Dean Kangas State Farm 5, 1902 Tap and Grill 4
Dean Kangas State Farm was down 4-0 after three innings but rallied for three in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth to earn a 5-4 victory over 1902 Tap and Grill.
1902 Tap and Grill jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first due to some good base running by Lane Johnson and Everrett Linna who both reached first by being hit by pitches and eventually crossed home.
After a scoreless second, the 1902 nine tallied another two with Johnson and Linna again both scoring. Johnson earned his way on with a triple and Linna walked. Both came in on wild pitches.
Despite being down 0-4, State Farm was not about throwing in the towel. In the top of the fourth, they rallied for three. Tate Asiala started things off with a walk. He scored on an RBI double by Simon Sturos. That was followed by a RBI single by Myles Kangas who later scored himself to make this a 4-3 game in favor of 1902.
State Farm kept the rally going in the top of the fifth with another run courtesy of Bryant Johnson to tie this one at four, and they did not stop there.
After keeping 1902 scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, the boys in red took the lead with another run in the top of the sixth. The fifth State Farm tally was Myles Kangas who reached on a walk and came home on a Cole Kangas single up the middle – all with two outs.
Stellar pitching put the 1902 squad down with three strikeouts in their final at bat, and State Farm won this one 5-4.
