Trio of Huskies named to CSC Academic All-District team

AUSTIN — Michigan Tech Huskies cross country and track & field student-athletes Callen Carrier, Sam Lange and Sophia Rhein have been selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team, announced Tuesday.

Carrier, a native of Spring Lake, Michigan, earns his first CSC Academic All-District selection as the fourth finisher for the Huskies in three meets during the cross country season including at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship in Sacramento, California. On the track, Carrier ran to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2025 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, three spots better than his finish in 2024. He also earned an 11th place finish in the 5,000m at the conference meet before capping his season with a 9:20.86 personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite. Academically, Carrier holds a 3.81 cumulative GPA pursuing a degree in computer science as a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete. 

Lange, hailing from Washington, Illinois, a CSC Academic All-America Second Teamer, earns his third-consecutive Academic All-District distinction after a successful campaign on the grass to conclude his career for the Black & Gold. Lange was the top-finisher for the Huskies in five of six races in the 2024 season earning All-Region (12th-place) and First Team All-GLIAC honors (6th-place). He finished the season with an 83rd place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, California. In the classroom, Lange boasts a 3.98 cumulative GPA completing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, was a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete and a GLIAC Commissioner’s Award recipient in the fall.

Rhein earns her first CSC Academic All-District selection after a successful sophomore year. The Traverse City, Michigan, native was the low-stick for the Black & Gold during the cross country season earning All-GLIAC Second Team honors before taking 33rd at the Midwest Regional. On the oval, Rhein ran under 17:20 for 5,000m three times with a personal-best of 17:12.26. At the GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships she placed fifth overall, improving on her seventh-place finish from a season ago. Academically, Rhein is a two-time USTTCCCA All-Academic Athlete, holding a 3.95 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 15, 2025 (women), and July 16, 2025 (men).
