Gold Standard swings past Northern Wishes, Finnish Coat shuts out Superior Service

LAKE LINDEN — Gold Standard earned their second win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Northern Wishes at the Boneyard on Wednesday. The ladies jumped out to a 3-0 first inning and never looked back.
Ashlyn Steves opened the game with a base hit and scored. She was followed by Emily Jokela and Alli Corrigan, who both crossed home before the first out.
Northern Wishes’ only run came in the second courtesy of Larissa Peterson. She walked and came home two batters later. Naomi Frahm knocked her in with an an RBI single to center.
In the circle for Gold Standard was Jokela. She got the complete-game win, striking out 12 along the way. She was also 3-for-4 at the plate and earned the player-of-the-game accolades from her coach Curtis Kinnunen.
“Emily never disappoints,” he noted. “We got good pitching from her and we played the field well. The three runs in the first also helped.
Gold Standard added two more in the fourth with Hailey Crouch and Jokela both scoring. A Jokela single in the seventh led to Gold Standard’s sixth and final run.
Finnish Coat 7, Superior Service 0
In Chassell on Wednesday, Finnish Coat defeated Superior Service, 7-0.
Lena Myhren was the winning pitcher and Josie Heinonen took the loss. Myhren struck out five, and Heinonen had six strikeouts.
The big hitters for Finnish Coat were Brynn Arko, Josie Switzer and Kayleigh Carlson, each with a double and a single.
For Superior Service, Millie Loukus, Jordan Holombo and Kaydence Pizzi all had singles.
