Crush 12U take second in Oconto tournament

OCONTO, Wis. — The Dean Kangas State Farm/GLSV/Gold Standard Copper Country Crush 12U fastpitch softball team travelled to Oconto, Wisconsin, this past the weekend to compete in the “2025 Rumble On The River Softball Tournament”. The Crush went undefeated in three pool play games securing the top seed in their pool.
The Crush found tough competition within the Gold Bracket, and finished as the tournament runner-up. Overall, the Crush went 5-1 on the weekend for a successful second tournament of their season.
Crush victorious over NDA 12U FT Tritons, 6-2
NDA 12U FT Tritons got on the board first with one run in the first, and one run in the third inning.
The Crush tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a single by Ramona Raisanen.
They jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Izi Jahfetson drew a walk, scoring one run, Ari Jahfetson singled, scoring two runs, and Taylor Goldsworthy grounded out, scoring one run.
Raisanen stepped in the circle first for the Crush. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and two runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking none. Claire Mettlach earned the win. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one.
Ari Jahfetson went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one RBI. Mettlach went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Copper Country Crush in hits. Morgan Vandiver, Ari Jahfetson, Mettlach, Vivian Mattson, Raisanen, Izi Jahfetson, and Abby Hampton each stole multiple bases.
The Crush turned one double play in the game and were sure-handed in the field to not commit a single error.
Crush defeats Preble in pitcher’s duel, 2-1
Both teams were strong in the circle, but the Crush defeated Preble 2-1.
The Crush opened the scoring in the first after a steal of home scored one run.
They added one run in the second. Mattson walked, making the score 2-0.
Raisanen started the game, giving up just one run. Mettlach pitched one inning of no-run ball in relief. The hurler allowed one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Mattson led the Crush with one hit in one at bat. The team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Danica Jahfetson and Emma Kangas led the team with two free passes each. The two, along with Taylor Goldsworthy, each stole multiple bases. The Crush stole 10 bases in the game.
The team was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Pitchers work together Crush shut out Southern Door 12U, 5-0
The Crush defeated Southern Door 12U Softball 5-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Mettlach and Raisanen each pitched for the Crush in the game.
The Crush opened the scoring in the first after Vandiver grounded out, scoring one run.
A wild pitch extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Raisanen opened the game for Copper Country Crush. The starter allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Mettlach pitched four innings in relief, surrendering one hit and zero runs, while striking out 10 and walking one.
Amelia Pennala and Izi Jahfetson each collected one hit. Pennala went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one RBI. Kangas, Mettlach, Pennala, Raisanen, and Izi Jahfetson each stole multiple bases.
The Crush had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. They also stole 12 bases in the game.
Crush defeat Lakeshore Riverhawks on Raisanen’s dominant performance, 8-0
Raisanen didn’t allow a single run as the Crush defeated the Riverhawks 12U 8-0 on Saturday. She allowed just three hits.
A single by Goldsworthy put the Crush on the board in the bottom of the third.
They piled up nine hits in the game. Vandiver provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Crush with two RBIs. The three-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Kangas, Vandiver, and Goldsworth each collected two hits.
Kangas and Hampton each stole multiple bases. The team stole seven bases in the game.
River Rebels 12U unable to overcome Crush’s late-game surge, 1-0
The Crush snatched the lead late in their 1-0 victory over River Rebels 12U on Sunday. The game was tied at zero in the bottom of the fourth when Goldsworthy doubled, scoring one run.
Raisanen threw six innings on the way to a shutout. The starter struck out three.
The Crush turned away a late fifth inning threat with superb defense. Hampton made a play in the outfield, holding a runner at third. A shallow line drive by the next batter to center field was caught by Vandiver, who then threw out the tying run attempting to advance home after the catch. The Crush were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
Goldsworthy, who was the leadoff hitter, had two hits in two at bats.
Crush 12U fall to DGSA Fire-Red 12U, 5-4
The Crush got on the board in the top of the first inning after Vandiver singled to center field, and Kangas grounded out, each scoring one run.
DGSA Fire-Red 12U captured the lead, 5-2, in the bottom of the first.
The Crush could not recover from the five-run first inning, but they did work back to within a run.
Raisanen led things off in the circle for the Crush. The hurler gave up eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none.
Vandiver and Raisanen were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run. Vandiver and Goldsworthy each collected two hits for Crush.
Vandiver and Goldsworthy each stole multiple bases. The Crush stole eight bases in the game.
