Pair of upcoming summer races return in August
HOUGHTON — The Great Deer Chase and the Ore to Shore are coming up in August. Presented by Rhythm Bike Shop and Level Up Branded Apparel Specialists of Houghton, the Great Deer Chase is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 16. The Ore to Shore is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9.
With both races happening a week apart, they are a great opportunity for travelers from outside of the area to enjoy all the Copper Country has to offer in between the events.
Both races will feature awards for the top male and female finisher.
The Great Deer Chase has several races planned, including a 50-yard Tots Race sponsored by ThermoAnalytics; a two-mile race sponsored by A-1 General Contracting; an eight-mile race sponsored by McGann Building Supply; a 15-mile race sponsored by Down Wind Sports; and the 30-mile, one lap race through the Swedetown Trails.
They have also added an untimed adventure ride for those looking to do a longer event encompassing additional terrain and scenery.
With the event being held on the same date as Calumet’s Pasty Fest, the day could be both entertaining and delicious.
Both the Ore to Shore and Great Deer Chase cater to the youth cyclists by offering smaller age groups for youth riders and prizes. The Great Deer Chase will also be offering a cash payout to the top three male and female racers in the 30-mile race.
Whether you are from out of the area and looking for a great vacation option bookended by some awesome events, or a local rider looking to focus your training, both races offer a chance for fun.
