Lakes football comes up short against Nordics

FELCH — Despite leading 20-16 at the end of the first half, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes football team could not answer 14 fourth-quarter points by the North Dickinson Nordics in a 38-34 loss on Thursday.

Brady Axford had a strong game for the Lakes going 5-of-9 through the air for 94 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 18 times for 128 yards, and a two-point conversion.

Blake Lebo went 3-of-5 for 82 yards and three touchdowns.

Josh Daavettila rushed 13 times for 65 yards and a two-point conversion. He was also strong defensively, leading the Lakes with 14 tackles.

Tyler Axford had a strong game receiving with three catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had eighth tackles, one sack and one interception.

Lukas Axford also had three receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Other scores

The Ontonagon Gladiators beat the Ishpeming Hematites on Friday, 21-14. The Calumet Copper Kings shut out the West Iron Wykons, 41-0.

The Houghton Gremlins lost to the Iron Mountain Mountaineers on Thursday, 41-22.
