Koch, Kucharski earn GLIAC Player of the Week Honors
HOUGHTON — For the first time this season, two Michigan Tech Huskies football stalwarts have earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors after snapping a three-game losing streak to Davenport in a 16-14 win on the road Saturday for an overall record of 5-1 and 2-0 in league play.
Junior linebacker Chase Koch has earned his first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade as sophomore kicker Avery Kucharski was tabbed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Koch, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, recorded his second interception in two games and tied the team-high with eight total tackles, six solo and two assists in Saturday’s win to keep the Huskies undefeated on the road at 4-0.
Kucharski, hailing from Portage, Michigan, recorded a season-high three field goal makes going 3-for-4 completing a long of 43 yards in addition to connections from 23 and 22 yards while also adding a PAT. The sophomore added five kickoffs for 221 yards to help Michigan Tech start 2-0 in GLIAC Play.
The Player of the Week duo and the rest of the Huskies will welcome the top-ranked Bulldogs to Kearly Stadium on Saturday at noon.
