LAKE LINDEN — It was round two on the volleyball court between cross-town rivals the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes and the Jeffers Jets. The Jets won the first meeting, 3-1, on their home court, and the Lakes returned the favor with a 3-0 sweep at home on Monday, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17.
“We came out strong and more like a team this time,” said Lakes coach Joslynn Perala. “We were smarter in mixing our shots up, and serving was better.”
It started in the first as the Lakes jumped out to a five-point lead. Cleo Milkey led the way for the Lakes with 12 kills and two aces on the night. A 19-12 lead for the Lakes turned into a set win.
After ties at five and six in the second set, the Jets took a three-point lead with Kloe Vernan on the line at 14-11. The Lakes managed, however, to knot it again at 17, 18 and 19. They then won the sprint to 25 with Jovie Daniels on the line and earned the set win.
Momentum was with them as they opened the third with Ella Schneiderhan on the line. She pushed the Lakes out to an 8-1 lead. That morphed into a 15-5 lead with Milkey back on the line. While the Jets got within four with Lainey Aisala posting a service run of six, that is as good as it got the Jeffers. The Lakes won the set and the match.
