Roundup: Jets volleyball, Panthers win, Gremlins fall
IRONWOOD — The Jeffers Jets volleyball team needed four sets to defeat the Ironwood Red Devils Tuesday night. The Jets won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-16, before dropping the third set, 25-15. The bounced back with a 25-18 fourth set to win the match.
Mia Nordstrom led the Jets in kills with 15. Alaina Kangas followed with six.
Defensively, Aya Keteri had 15 digs. Mindy Hillstrom had 14 assists.
Panthers top Nimrods
WATERSMEET — The Chassell Panthers volleyball team had to battle all three sets, but managed to earn a sweep of the Watersmeet Nimrods on the road Tuesday. The Panthers won 25-18, 25-18, and 25-19.
Elli Kuntze had 10 kills, five aces and five digs. Sylvia Aho had 20 assists, one kill and one ace.
Dusty Lippold had 11 kills, six digs and five aces. Oriana Olson had eight kills and three aces.
Gremlins fall to Hematites
ISHPEMING — The Houghton Gremlins evened their volleyball match Tuesday night against the Ishpeming Hematites at one set each, but could not win another set in a loss Tuesday on the road.
The Hematites won the first set 25-19, the Gremlins took the second, 25-23, and then Ishpeming won the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-19.
Ellie Hainault led the Gremlins’ offense with seven kills and two aces. Emmy Pietila drove the defense with 16 digs and two aces. Alyssa Northey had 14 assists and two aces.
