HOUGHTON – Michigan Tech redshirt sophomore wide receiver Nic Nora has been named the Week Nine GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

The Kingsford, Michigan, native recorded a career-high three rushing touchdowns in the 56-31 win over Roosevelt at Kearly Stadium on Saturday.

“He’s had more games under his belt, so he’s more comfortable,” said Huskies coach Dan Mettlach. “He wants the football as they all do. So, I think I said this after the game on Saturday as well, anytime we can get Nic, or any of our skilled guys in space where they’re playing on an outside linebacker or safety at that point, obviously, we like that matchup.

“We were able to get Nic and some green grass on Saturday, and obviously he made the best of it.”

In total, Nora rushed for 59 yards on six carries with a long of 21 yards while catching three passes for 53 yards, including a long of 33 yards. His career day helped the Huskies move to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC.

Mettlach loved how Nora made life easier for freshman quarterback Elliott Larner, who made his first career start against Roosevelt.

“Nic with the ball in his hands is good,” Mettlach said, “anytime we can get him in space. That’s a big part of our offense. You’re playing a freshman ‘Q’ (quarterback), you have to find different ways to move the football.

“We just felt like we had some advantages if we could get it out to the edges. Obviously, good things happen when you get it out there.”
