Northern Michigan announces football leadership change
MARQUETTE — Rick Comley, Northern Michigan University’s Athletic Director, announced Friday that head football coach Shane Richardson has resigned from his position effective immediately.
“We are committed to achieving standards consistent with our focus on the success of each of our student athletes,” said Comley. “The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”
Details related to Richardson’s resignation will not be shared by the university due to the privacy of personnel matters.
Billy Lindquist will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The administrative leave for Assistant Coach Joe Gatz will be lifted on Nov. 10, and he will be part of the coaching staff to prepare the team for their final game of the season against Wayne State University in the Superior Dome at 1 p.m. on Nov. 15.
