DOLLAR BAY — It was opening night for area high school girls basketball Tuesday. In Dollar Bay, the Blue Bolts fell to the Hancock Bulldogs, 52-27. It was the first win for Hancock’s new varsity coach, Carsen Chynoweth.
“We pushed the floor well,” he said, “getting easy buckets off transition.”
Easy buckets resulted in an 18-0 lead for the Bulldogs after the first eight minutes.
The Blue Bolts got their first bucket early in the second courtesy of Macy Jurgensen. She went on to lead her team in scoring with 16 points.
The Bulldogs led 29-6 at half. They kept their winning pace going in the third moving the ball well.
“I liked how we were making an extra pass and playing as a team,” Chynoweth added. “We were patient. We played up tempo, but poised, and not out of control. We rebounded well, getting that second and third-chance shot.”
With the Bulldogs up 40-15 after three, Chynoweth was able to play all of his bench in the most of the fourth quarter.
“It was good that everybody got in,” he stated.
Both teams scored 12 points in the fourth. This one ended 52-27 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Emery Chynoweth led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 16 points. Alecia Aho followed with 13.
