CALUMET — Despite 12 points from Owen Loukus and 11 from Andrew Junttila, the Calumet Copper Kings boys basketball team could not overcome a 13-point first half in a 58-45 loss Friday at home against the Wakefield-Marenisco Cardinals.

Loukus drained a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and Owen Peterson added one of his own, but the Copper Kings found themselves behind, 13-9, after the buzzer sounded.

Chase Lee, who led all scorers with 18 points, answered Loukus’ two 3-pointers with a pair of his own in the quarter for the Cardinals.

Wakefield took control of the game in the second quarter, where they scored 16 points while holding Calumet to just four.

Lee hit a 3, and Garrett Prisbe, who finished with 12 points, hit one as well for the Cardinals.

In the second half, Calumet was much better. They scored 15 points in the quarter, driven by two 3’s from Junttila and one each Loukus and Peter Torola.

The Cardinals answered the push with 17 points of their own to extend their lead to 18, 46-28.

Junttila, Loukus, and Torola all hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and the Copper Kings outscored the Cardinals, 17-12.
