Gremlins swim teams sweep Patriots
ISHPEMING — Both of the Houghton Gremlins swim teams earned wins in a dual meet with Westwood Monday. The boys won 129-17, while the girls won 136-40.
Coach Erik Johnson was proud of the effort his teams put forth.
“On the boys’ side, we did a solid job of controlling what we could,” he said, “and capitalizing on the opportunities that we had.”
Alex Svanidze won the 200-meter freestyle. His time qualified him for U.P. Finals at the end of the season.
Tate Evans won the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Gunnar Carlson won the 100-meter butterfly. Christian Raasio took the 100-meter freestyle. William Jiang won the 100-meter backstroke.
In distance swimming, Anderson Limkemann won the 500-meter freestyle.
Isaac Neva won the diving competition. ”On the girls’ side, I was happy with how we performed,” said Johnson. “We still have a lot of work to do, but we didn’t get a lot of time to make adjustments from Saturday, so everything was pretty much where I expected us to be.
Aya Keteri won the 200-meter freestyle. Kayleigh Dart won the 50-meter freestyle. Evelyn LaTendresse won the 100-meter freestyle.
Ahri Olson took the 100-meter breaststroke.
Shania Aepli earns wins in both the 200-meter individual medley and the 500-meter freestyle.
Meg Ruhonen won the diving competition.
“It was a solid day from start to finish,” Johnson said. “We have a lot to clean up, but plenty of time to do that before our next meet Jan. 6.
“We are starting to come together as a team, and I was impressed with how all the kids supported each other from the start of the meet to the end.
