Pioneers open weekend with double-digit goals
HOUGHTON — The Portage Lake Pioneers fired 45 shots at Sun Prairie Killer Bees goaltender Davis Nunnally in the first period, but scored just twice. From there, the Pioneers continued to pile the shots on goal, finishing with 113, and scored 17 more times to come away with a 19-0 win Friday at Dee Stadium.
Dylan Farmer scored a hat trick. Connor Raffaelli, Brett Hauswirth, Nick Harris, and Gaborik Carlson all scored twice for Portage Lake over the course of the game.
Farmer scored his first 9:17 into the contest, unassisted. HIs second came to open the middle frame at 1:54. HIs third was the final goal scored at 18:30 of the third.
Wyatt Geshel made it 2-0 at 18:38 of the opening period.
After Farmer’s second goal, Carlson scored his first at 9:15. Landon Stevens added a goal at 10:04. Harris scored 26 seconds later.
Joseph Dancy struck at 11:08. Ross Rouleau scored 15:06. Spencer Donnelly then struck at 16:10.
Carlson scored his second of the night at 17:30 before Dawson McKay scored the ninth goal of the period at 19:45.
Raeffalli scored back-to-back goals to open the third period in the first 2:56. Harris scored his second at 5:36.
Cody Sivonen struck at 7:25. Hauswirth then scored a pair over the course of 7:23 with Matt Mantta picking up a goal in between at 13:37.
A.J. Petrulis stopped all 15 shots sent his way for the shutout and the win.
