L’ANSE — In the first “Battle of the Bay” for the boys basketball season, the L’Anse Purple Hornets led practically from the opening tip against the Baraga Vikings Monday at home. In the end, the Purple Hornets came away with the win, 59-36.

“I was really proud with how we dictated things tonight,” said Purple Hornets coach Robert Potter. “We didn’t play a perfect game, but we played well enough to come out on top.”

Sam Lee led L’Anse with 33 points.

Daniel Conner paced the Vikings with 13 points.
