CCSC athletes finish on the podium

The Copper Country Snowsports Club, presented by UPWard Coffee & Orthodontics of Houghton, had an impressive weekend of racing on Jan. 17 and 18 with numerous podium finishes, including two first-place places.
The team left the Copper Country and spread out to two former iron districts, with some racers attending the United States Ski and Snowboard (USSS) event at Snowriver Mountain Resort near Ironwood, and others attending the Pine Mountain Invite in Iron Mountain.
At Snowriver, racing in a large regional field at a U.S. sanctioned race, Laura Lucak put in a dominating performance taking first in the Giant Slalom (GS) and first in Slalom (SL) in the Under 18 category, along with a second in the second GS race.
In the Under 16 category, Corrine Rubin netted two third place finishes in GS, while in the Under 12 category, Kinoka Minakata took second in GS and fourth in the second GS race.
At Pine Mountain, numerous CCSC skiers obtained top-5 results across their age groups.
In the youngest category of Under 8, Asher Bradfish took fourth in SL and second in GS, and Kahi Hoiska took fifth in both disciplines.
In the Under 10 category, Ezra Bradfish finished fifth in both. Racing in the Under 14 category, Mayah Green took fifth in each discipline.
In the Under 16 category, Aunders Anderson took fourth place in both SL and GS, with teammate Jon Schuett getting fifth in both.

The rescheduled Rumney invitational in Marquette is next up on Saturday, Jan. 31, along with a home race, the Keweenaw Cup, at Mont Ripley on Sunday, Feb. 1.
