RIPLEY — The Copper Country Snowsports Club, presented by UPWard Coffee & Orthodontics of Houghton, capped off 2025 with four third-place podium finishes at Mont Ripley Friday at a United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSS) national sanctioned race series event.
Despite the fact that a blizzard on Monday, Dec. 29, condensed the scheduled two-day race Giant Slalom (GS) series into one-day, skiers waited it out, and did all of the series on Tuesday. The wait paid off, and skiers woke up to some great conditions at Mont Ripley to hit the hill, which they took advantage of.
In the 16 and under category, CCSC skier Corinne Rubin of Houghton finished in third place for both morning and afternoon GS races.
In the 14 and under category, CCSC skier Ian Klein of Hancock finished in third place for both GS races in the series.
“Congrats to both Corinne and Ian on making the podium at a national sanctioned race,” said Kris Anderson of the Copper Country Snowsports Club.
In addition to the racing, CCSC skiers Aunders Anderson, Caroline Scott, Rubin, Klein and Myah Hersch-Green all attended the two-day Giant Slalom USSS-sanctioned training camp at Mont Ripley over the weekend of Dec. 27-28, to get expert coaching from USSS accredited coaches and working on improving their skills.
“Thanks to Mont Ripley for hosting this incredible event, which brings the best skiers in the region together for training each holiday season,” said Anderson.
Up next
Next up for the team will be the Pine Mountain race in Iron Mountain on Jan. 17, 2026.
