Gladiators boys earn win over Chassell
ONTONAGON — Despite getting a game-high 32 points from Brayden Larson, the Chassell Panthers boys basketball team could not hold off a huge third quarter by the Ontonagon Gladiators in a 70-59 loss Friday.
Jack Nelson got things started for the Gladiators in the first quarter, where he scored four baskets and nailed a triple as well for 11 of his team-high 28 points.
Larson did what he could to answer, hitting two 3-pointers and scoring 12 points as the two teams finished the first eight minutes tied 18-18.
In the second quarter, Ontonagon added 15 points, including four points from Jack Nelson and four each from Mason Pestka and Kyle Nelson.
However, the Panthers got three 3-pointers from Luke Tarvis, who finished with 12 points, and six from Larson as they took a two-point lead, 35-33, into half time.
However, the third quarter belonged to the Gladiators, who outscored the Panthers, 21-7. Jack Nelson racked up eight points, Ryan Holmstrom added six, as did Pestka, who finished with 16 points..
Larson had a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws in the quarter to drive Chassell’s offense.
The Panthers stormed back in the fourth quarter with 17 points, but the Gladiators stuck with them, scoring 16.
Larson led all scorers in the quarter with a 3-pointer and three other baskets.
Jack Nelson made two baskets and added a free throw. Pestka had two baskets and two free throws to lead the Gladiators.
