PAINESDALE — The Jeffers Jets girls basketball team ended their week in the same way they started it, on the winning track. Thursday, they downed the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts, 53-27.

“It was another good night for us,” noted Jeffers coach Jordan Klemett. “We set a good trap and were able to get some turnovers and score some buckets.”

The Jets’ defense held the Blue Bolts to less than 10 points a quarter. It was a 16-3 difference after one. That morphed into a 26-12 lead at half.

The Jets were at the foul line quite a bit, close to 30 times to be exact. They were 16-of-29 as a team from the charity stripe. In comparison, the Blue Bolts were 9-of-13 at the free throw line. The Jets’ Mia Nordstrom was the leader for foul shots. Five of her 10 points came from the line (5-of-8).

“Game ball goes to Mia,” stated Klemett. “She rebounded well and shot well.”

The Jets outscored the Blue Bolts 13-7 in the third and 14-8 in the final eight minutes.

With the big lead, Klemett was able to get all his bench players in.

“That is nice to get them in and have them get the experience,” noted the coach. “It is good for the program.”

Leading the scoring for the Jets was Isabel Rajala with 15.

Laila Bell topped the scoring for the Blue Bolts with 16.
