PAINESDALE — The Jeffers Jets girls basketball team’s defense was spot on Tuesday night as they held the Bessemer Speedgirls to less than five points a quarter in a 63-13 win. The most points the Speedgirls scored was four points and that was in the second and third quarters.

Jeffers coach Jordan Klemett wasn’t complaining.

“We rebounded well, did a good of putting pressure on their guards, and created some turnovers,” he said. “The turnovers created some good scoring opportunities for us.”

The Jets (4-7) led 21-3 after one. In the second, they outscored the Speedgirls (1-12), 16-4. The Jets led 37-7 at half.

At the 1:09 mark of the third, the running clock kicked in as the score was now 51-11.

In the fourth, Klemett was able to play his bench girls. According to him, that is always a plus.

“It is always good to get our younger girls in,” he said. “They all executed well, and I liked how we took care of the ball. You are always happy when you score 63 points.”

Leading the scoring for the Jets was Montana Heinonen with 20. Teammate Remi Coponen scored 10.
