Roundup: Panthers, Gremlins earn wins

Panthers 65, Copper Kings 48
CALUMET — The Calumet Copper Kings boys basketball team had no answer for Brayden Larson of the Chassell Panthers Thursday night in the Calumet Gym. Larson rattled off a game-high 32 points to help lift Chassell to a 65-48 win.
Larson got the Panthers going right away with two 3-pointers and a pair of other baskets as part of a 20-point opening quarter for Chassell. Luke Tarvis chipped in with a basket, a free throw, and a 3-pointer as well.
John Golus hit a 3-pointer for the Copper Kings, as did Owen Loukus, but the Copper Kings found themselves down 20-12 after eight minutes.
In the second, Dayne Tarvis hit two of his three 3-pointers and Larson put up 10 points with one 3-pointer as Chassell took a 36-20 lead into halftime.
In the third, Golus hit his second 3-pointer of the night, as did Loukus, as the Copper Kings scored 16, However, Dayne Tarvis and Larson both answered with 3-pointers of their own as the Panthers posted 19 points.
Leading 55-36 heading into the fourth, the Panthers scored 10 points over the final eight minutes to seal the win.
Calumet answered with 12 points led by 3-pointers from Golus, Loukus, and Peter Torola.
Dayne Tarvis finished with 13 points for Chassell. Golus had 15 for Calumet, with Torola adding 13.
Gremlins 70, Speedboys 56
HOUGHTON — The Houghton Gremlins boys basketball team had two players finish with 20 or more points as they earned a 70-56 win Thursday over the visiting Bessemer Speedboys at the Houghton Gym.
Terrance Nolan finished with 29 points to lead the Gremlins. Jack Cooke added 20. The Houghton duo racked up 13 3-pointers to help drive the offense.
Mason Mayo chipped in for the Gremlins with 10 points.
Leland Hellenbeck finished with 20 points for Bessemer in the loss.
