HOUGHTON — For the second time in the 2025-26 season, and the 10th in his career, Michigan Tech Huskies men’s basketball senior guard Marcus Tomashek has been named the GLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8, the league announced on Monday.

Tomashek, the pride of Green Bay, Wisconsin, averaged 30 points, six rebounds and three assists, leading Michigan Tech to its second GLIAC weekend sweep with wins over No. 18 nationally-ranked Northern Michigan, 84-75, on Thursday before a 81-72 victory against Ferris State on Saturday.

“It always helps when Marcus gets going,” said Huskies coach Josh Buettner. “His confidence boils over into the rest of our team. So, when he’s playing with that confidence and swagger, we’re going to be a better offensive team.

“Especially when he makes some threes. He’s been getting some pretty good looks at three. They just haven’t been going. He’s been making them a little bit more in practice, and, honestly, coach Matt (Majkrzak) said that in some of his things that Marcus is going to get his shots up, and we just need to keep him as an inefficient scorer, and not let anybody else get going. To a certain extent, he (Marcus) was an efficient scorer, but I think that was their game plan to try to make Marcus beat them.”

For the weekend, the Huskies’ All-American shot 40.6% from the field (13-of-32), 43.8% from beyond the arc (7-of-16) while going near perfect from the free throw line, shooting 93.1% (27-of-29).

He recorded his third 30-point outing with 35 points in the win over the rival Wildcats on Thursday before posting 25 points, a team-leading four assists, and surpassing 2,000 career points, now ranking fifth all-time for the Huskies, in Saturday’s win over the Bulldogs.

Tomashek ranks second in the GLIAC in points (306) and points per game (20.4).

“He’s the fifth guy to do it,” said Buettner. “For one, you have to stay healthy, and play a lot of games. He was beat up in a couple of them, but it’s a lot of points. It’s been pretty spectacular getting to watch him to do it. There’s been, obviously, some struggles early in his career. He’s battled through it, he’s stuck with it, and it’s been awesome.”
