DOLLAR BAY — The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City gymnasium was standing-room only on Friday for the annual homecoming game on the hardwood. The Blue Bolts boys basketball team brought home a 77-61 win over the L’Anse Purple Hornets.

It was a game in which the Blue Bolts took a second-quarter lead and never looked back.

“We had to adjust, and we had to overcome a slow start,” said Blue Bolts coach Jesse Kentala. “Guys stepped up when we needed them.”

The Purple Hornets led 18-14 after the first. However, the Blue Bolts opened the second with a 7-2 advantage and took a 21-20 lead. It was then a 35-30 lead for the Dollar Bay five at half.

“Quarters three and four, I would say, were our best,” added Kentala.

In the third, the Blue Bolts shook off a brief L’Anse lead, 44-41, and outscored the Purple Hornets 14-6 to take a 57-50 advantage into the final eight minutes.

They kept the hoops coming with good ballhandling, and by scoring 20 more points, compared to L’Anse’s 11, to close out the win.

Liam Tourtillott led the scoring with 33 points for the Blue Bolts. That included seven triples. Baron Colbert followed with 26.

For the Purple Hornets, Keegan Davidson led the scoring charge with 22. Sam Lee sunk 19 and Talan Larson had 10.
