Jack Anderson named CCHA Defenseman of the Week
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Huskies defenseman Jack Anderson has been named the CCHA Defenseman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It’s his second weekly honor this season and Tech’s 14th overall.
Jack Anderson had a goal and two assists in Saturday’s 4-3 victory at No. 15 St. Thomas. He scored Tech’s second goal on the power play and assisted on the first and third goals. He also blocked three shots in the series.
“(He) made a great play on the first goal,” said Huskies coach Bill Muckalt, “Second goal, he shoots a puck. I mean, that puck’s probably going 97 to 100 miles an hour one time with (Tom) Leppa in front, screening the goalie. That’s probably a goal in any league in the world.”
Anderson has 16 points this season on six goals and 10 assists. He ranks eighth in the nation in goals by a defenseman and fifth in CCHA defenseman points.
“Defensively, (he) does so much, on the penalty kill, his reach, his size, makes some really good plays, breaking the puck out, at times, under pressure,” said Muckalt. “Love what he brings to our locker room. He does things the right way. He’s excelling in school, excels in the community.
“The way he conducts himself, there’s a lot to like about him. He’s a real team guy. He’s a glue guy, does everything. He soaks it all in. He’s a sponge. He’s coachable.”
