LAKE LINDEN — Coach Brett Poissant of the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes boys basketball team knew that he and his team had their work cut out on the basketball court against the Chassell Panthers Friday. The Lakes (7-13) lost to the Panthers a week earlier by nearly 40 points (69-42).

However, they played the game they needed to play, and won their home matchup against the Panthers, 49-47.

“We had a full roster this time around,” said Poissant. “We moved the ball around and got the job done tonight. It was good to see our kids compete tonight as a team.”

The Panthers (5-12) pushed out to a 12-6 lead after one. However back-to-back triples by the Lakes put them just down by one at 21-22 in the later part of the second. While the Panthers stayed stuck on 22, the Lakes closed out the second quarter with a 25-22 lead.

A back-and-forth battle in the third led to 36-36 knot after three. A brief one-point lead at the 2:44 mark of the fourth by Chassell (46-45) was as good as it got for the boys wearing blue. The Lakes went on to hit their free throws and win.

“Game ball goes to Charlie Hainault,” stated Poissant. “He had the best game of the year in terms of working the ball and playing the post defensively. His rebounding was outstanding.”

Leading the scoring for the Lakes was Blake Lebo with 28. Josh Daavettila followed with 12.

Brayden Larson led the Panthers in scoring with 25. Teammate Dayne Tarvis had 10.

“Give credit to the Lakes,” said Panthers coach Joel Larson. “They hit a lot of shots, and that was the difference. We did not rebound well and did not get enough stops.”
