Larson, Tarvis lift Chassell boys to win over Lake Linden
CHASSELL — The Chassell Panthers boys basketball team scored 24 points in the second quarter, largely thanks to 14 points from Brayden Larson, to create separation from the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes en route to a 69-42 victory Thursday at the Ed Helakoski Gym.
Larson led all scorers with 27 points, hitting three 3-pointers along the way. Luke Tarvis was also good from beyond the arc, hitting three 3-pointers of his own and scoring 22 points to help drive the Panthers’ offense.
Larson had three baskets in the opening quarter, and Luke Tarvis added two along with a pair of free throws as the Panthers scored 16 points in the opening quarter.
Blake Lebo hit a 3-pointer for the Lakes, and Josh Daavettila added a pair of baskets, as the Lakes scored seven in the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Larson popped off, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and adding four other baskets. Luke Tarvis hit a pair of 3-pointers of his own, and Grady Olson made a pair of baskets as the Panthers scored 40 points in the first half.
Daavettila did what he could to try help the Lakes stay within striking distance as he made three baskets and added a free throw, but the Lakes trailed 40-16 at half.
In the third quarter, Larson, Luke Tarvis, and Dayne Tarvis all hit 3-pointers as the Panthers added another 19 points to their total.
Daavettila had two baskets, but missed a pair of free throw attempts. Weston Mahrley hit a 3-pointer, and the Lakes scored nine in the quarter.
The fourth quarter was the Lakes’ best as Daavettila added two more baskets, finishing with a team-high 20 points, while Mahrley added a basket and four free throws. Bentley Rozman and Lebo also found the basket as the Lakes scored 17 points to just 10 by the Panthers.
