Huskies tennis teams drop all four matches on the road

Men’s tennis falls in final two road matches
HOUGHTON — The Michigan Tech Huskies men’s tennis team fell 6-1 at Ferris State Friday and 7-0 at Wayne State Saturday to wrap up its road schedule.
On Friday against the Bulldogs, junior Haitam Aboufirassi earned a point for the Huskies at No. 5 singles, winning 1-6, 7-5 (10-7). It was his third singles win in his first season in the Black and Gold.
Sophomore Laurent Teysseire won the first set before falling in three in his No. 1 singles match against the Warriors.

Tech is 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC and wraps up the regular season this weekend. The Huskies host Grand Valley State on Friday at 10 a.m. and Davenport on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gates Tennis Center. Fifth-year Sabri Laphitz will be recognized on his Senior Day on Saturday.
Women’s tennis drops a pair downstate
The Huskies women’s tennis team wrapped up the road portion of its schedule downstate over the weekend. The Huskies fell 5-2 at Ferris State on Friday and 7-0 at Wayne State on Saturday.
Against the Bulldogs, the Huskies took the doubles point after juniors Emily Rose and Bella Bigari won 6-4 at No. 1 and junior Caoimhe McDonnell and redshirt junior Emily Cojocaru were victorious 7-5 at No. 2.
Cojocaru extended her winning streak to 14 straight matches overall with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. She won seven straight singles and seven consecutive doubles contests.
In the road finale against the Warriors, sophomores Alexandra Nikonenko and Anamarija Ukic won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Tech is 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC wraps up its regular season this weekend at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies host Grand Valley State at 2 p.m. on Friday and Davenport on Saturday at 2 p.m. Katerina Khardina will be recognized Saturday on her Senior Day.
