Negaunee, Ishpeming take WestPAC honors
CALUMET — The Negaunee Miners won the WestPAC girls basketball regular season title and saw coach Mike O’Donnell take Coach of the Year. The Ishpeming Hematites featured the Player of the Year in senior Janessa Eagle, and the Defensive Player of the Year in senior Mya Hemmer.
Hancock senior Emery Chynoweth and Houghton junior Ellie Hainault were both named to the Dream Team. Joining them were Hemmer, and Negaunee’s Clare O’Donnell, a senior, and Gretel Johnson, a junior.
Calumet junior Bailey Strom was named to the Copper Division First Team. Hancock senior Alicia Aho, Houghton junior Ruby Zawada, and Jeffers senior Mia Nordstrom were also named. West Iron County sophomore Bristol Shamion was the youngest member of the honorees.
Strom also highlighted the All-Defensive Team. Joining her were Chynoweth, Eagle, Houghton senior Romi Mattson, and Negaunee junior Keira Waterman.
Calumet senior Kiirsi Johnson, Hancock senior Lydia Pelli, Houghton senior Jacey Sleeman, and Jeffers sophomore Isabel Rajala all earned Copper Division honorable mention, along with West Iron Country senior Lacey Shamion.
The Iron Division First Team included Gwinn’s Makayla Delmont, Ishpeming’s Brittanie Piotrowski, Negaunee’s Waterman and Paige O’Donnell, and Westwood’s Addy Hallum.
