HURONTOWN — Pitching was almost perfect for GrandBridge Properties minor softball team on Monday night. The girls in the circle combined for 11 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in a five-inning shutout over Wildlife Refuge Cabins. In the end, the girls in gray scored in every inning to mount a 10-0 win.
Starting pitcher for GrandBridge Emy Keteri set the stage by striking out all nine batters she faced in the first three innings.
GrandBridge coach Trent Houtari summed it up best by saying it was a complete-game win.
“We were able to get two new girls in at pitcher,” he said, “and they did great.”
His two girls were Ellington Markham and Marabelle Hermann, who threw innings four and five, respectively.
“They threw strikes, and that is what we need,” added Houtari.
Pitching was not the only thing that was spot on. The GrandBridge bats were equally strong from the top of the order on down.
In the first inning, a leadoff hit by Brynlee Hanner led to her team’s first run. Hermann and Markham both followed suit for runs two and three. Braelyn Huotori slapped a hit to right side for the fourth run, and Keteri capped the inning off with a fifth run for GrandBridge.
In the second, a lead-off single by Olivia Kangas led to a sixth run for GrandBridge. Markham connected for a triple and scored in the third and Hanner crossed home for the second time in the fourth. GrandBridge led 8-0 after four frames. Runs nine and 10 came in the fifth as Markham and Keteri both got singles and scored.
Wildlife’s two hits came off the bats of Laina Fountaine in the fourth and Sofia Outinen in the fifth.
