Northern Wishes, Gold Standard open seasons with wins
LAKE LINDEN — The Copper County Women’s Fastpitch softball season opened Monday with a pair of games, both of which saw one team find their way home multiple times. Northern Wishes defeated Superior Service 14-1, and Gold Standard cruised to a 10-0 win over Moyle/Finnish Coat.
Rosalie Kangas led Northern Wishes in the circle. She combined with Janet Mattila to rack up 10 strikeouts between the two of them.
Regan Moyle got the start for Superior Service. Josie Connors came in to relieve her.
At the plate, Meg Ruohonen led Northern Wishes by coming up with a triple and a single. Mattila had a double and a single.
Also having strong nights were Rachel Kinnunen and Svea Johnson, who both had two singles.
For Superior Service, Molly Bugni and Kenzie Ekdahl each had a single.

Payton Goldsworthy continued her strong softball year by opening the fastpitch season with a nine-strikeout performance in the circle for Gold Standard Monday night.
She was equally good at the plate, where she had a triple, two doubles, and a single.
Her sister, Taylor Goldsworthy had a home run.
For Finnish Coat, Alana Nolan and Romi Mattson each picked up a single.

Wednesday, Moyle/Finnish Coat will take on Northern Wishes in the opening game at 5:30 p.m. at the Boneyard in Lake Linden. In the second game, Figaro’s Pizza will take on Superior Service.
