CHASSELL — Superior Service Towing had a perfect week on the softball diamond in Chassell. On Thursday, they made it four in row in the win column with victories over Moyle Construction and Backcountry Village.
The opener was an 11-8 win over Moyle that saw scoring by both teams in all but one inning.
These two rivals slugged out to a 4-3 Superior lead after one. Scoring for Moyle in the top frame were Miina Heinonen and Anna Hanson in the top two spots of the lineup. Then an Aurora Loukus base rap led to her coming home.
Superior Service’s runners included Brynn Keranen, Bria Johnson, Malena Kinnunen and Leona Heinonen. All reached base with singles before touching all four.
Both teams added one in the second frame to make it a 5-4 Superior service lead. Neither team scored in the third, but Superior Service pulled away with two runs in the fourth to make it a 7-4 lead.
Moyle, however, was not done. They knocked in three runs in the top of the fifth to tie it. Swinging big bats that inning were Violet Kilpela, Heinonen, and McKinley Soli – all of whom scored. The game was now tied at seven, but it was short-lived.
Superior rallied with two more runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth to win, while Moyle only posted one in the sixth.
Scoring the final four runs for Superior were Keranen, Ellie Witt, Delanie Seppanen and Carli Kangas.
“This was a good team win,” stated Superior coach Greg Seppanen. “Defense and offense came together to get the job done.”
He added that defense was the key in their second game of the night against Backcountry Village. They won this one on just three runs (3-1) and one run at a time.
“We had strong defense,” he noted. “The girls played their positions well.”
SUPERIOR SERVICE 3, BACKCOUNTRY VILLAGE 1
Superior Service jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three as Leona Heinonen singled and scored in the second, and a walk to Hadley Koski was run number two in the third.
Strong pitching and good fielding kept Backcountry Village off the scoreboard for the first four innings.
Backcountry’s only run came in the fifth as Gwen Sturos walked and eventually made it home. It did not make a difference though, as Superior tacked on one run as well in that same frame courtesy of Kangas.
Neither team scored in the sixth, and the game ended in favor of Superior Service.
