CHASSELL — Portage Lake Little League Majors softball wrapped up its week with a doubleheader at the Chassell field on Thursday. While the Superior Service Towing dominated the first game with a 10-1 win, The Blitz bounced back and took the second game with a 9-7 score.

According to Blitz coach Megan Parau, this was a much-need win for her girls.

“Our energy was up. We had a lot of good talking out there, and pitching was spot on, and we just worked really well out there this evening,” she said. “I am most proud of our play in the field. We have come a long way in stopping the ball.”

This was not an easy win for The Blitz. In fact it was a come-from-behind victory as Superior Service opened the game with a 3-2 lead after two innings. In the third inning, they increased it to 4-2 courtesy of a run scored by Elise Primeau.

The third frame belonged to The Blitz. They rallied for four runs to take a 6-2 lead and never looked back. Base hits by Kailee Forcia, Mikah Pallas and Aubrey Messer all led to runs scored. Laila Gauthier was the final run across the plate that inning.

While Superior Service scored one run in both the third and the fourth to make the score 6-4, the Blitz posted three more runs in the fifth. Swinging hot bats that inning were Forcia and Laila Gauthier. They both scored, as did Genevieve Cadeau, who reached on a walk.

While Superior Service rallied for two in the fifth to make it a 9-7 game, that was as good as it got for the girls in maroon. The Blitz put their opponents down one, two, three in the sixth. The game ended with Superior’s Ellie Witt striking out on a 1-2 pitch.

SUPERIOR SERVICE TOWING 10, THE BLITZ 1

Consistency was the name of the game for Superior Service Towing in the opener. They consistently scored in all but one inning to beat the Blitz 10-1.

Coach Greg Seppanen summed up his team’s win as a team win.

“It was very much a complete-game win,” he said. “We did well in the field, and got the hits we needed.”

It started with one run in the first, two in the second and two in the third. The girls in maroon led 5-0 after three.

The fourth mare was Superior Service’s best inning as they scored three. It began with a base hit by Bria Johnson. She scored on a wild pitch. Walks to Hadley Koski and Witt led to runs seven and eight.

Runs nine and 10 came an inning later with Audrina Kinnunen and Malena Kinnunen reaching on walks and crossing home.

The Blitz’s solo run came from a walk to Gauthier in the fifth.

Neither team scored in the sixth, and this one ended 10-1.

Starting at $4.00/week.
