LAKE LINDEN — Not one, not two but three balls left the Boneyard Wednesday in women’s fastpitch softball. Two of them cleared the fence off of the bats of the Gold Standard ladies and accounted for three of the six runs in their 6-1 win against Moyle/Finnish Coat.

According to Gold Standard coach Curtis Kinnunen, Wednesday’s win followed a simple softball formula.

“We hit the ball well,” he said. “Pitching was strong, and we ran the bases well.”

Good pitching came from Payton Goldsworthy, who struck out 15 Moyle batters en route to a complete-game win in the circle.

Moyle’s only run came in the fourth inning courtesy of Clea Ollanketo. She smashed a riser to deep left center and touched all four bases. But, Gold Standard already had three and were leading at that point, 3-1.

Their first run came in the second courtesy of Maria Chizek, who belted a double to deep left and came in on an Ava Giachino single.

Then in the third, leadoff hitter Ashlyn Steves punched a base hit past second and set the stage for Emily Jokela to bring her in. Jokela did just that as she slugged a Claire Mettlach pitch to right center and out of the park.

That two-run blast was mirrored in the fifth. This time it was Taylor Goldsworthy who went deep alone to make it 4-1. Also crossing the plate that inning was Chezick as Gold Standard added to more runs to get to six.

Payton Goldsworthy shut down the Moyle squad in the sixth and the seventh by striking out the side in both of those innings.

SUPERIOR SERVICE 10, NORTHERN WISHES 5

In Chassell, Superior Service doubled up Northern Wishes, 10-5.

Reagan Moyle was the winning pitcher for Superior Service. She struck out five in the game.

For Northern Wishes, Janet Mattila took the loss with Kayla Aho coming in as relief. Mattila struck out four.

At the plate for Superior Service, Raili Marcotte had three singles, while Moyle and MacKenzie Ekdahl each had two singles.

For Northern Wishes, Kim Aho had three singles. Svea Johnson had two singles.

Meg Ruohonen had a double.
