Gold Standard earns sweep over Superior Service

CHASSELL -- In Copper Country Women's Fastpitch softball action Monday evening, Northern Wishes and Figaro’s Pizza played a doubleheader at Chassell Field, while Superior Service and Gold Standard also played a doubleheader at the Boneyard in Lake Linden.

Both teams matchups had a missed a game earlier in the season due to a rainout.

NORTHERN WISHES 8, FIGARO'S PIZZA 3

Northern Wishes defeated Figaro’s Pizza 8-3.

Pitcher Janet Mattila earned the win. Kaylee Newsom took the loss for Figaro's Pizza. Mattila struck out seven. Newsom struck out four.

For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonene had two singles, Larissa Peterson had a triple and a single, and Sylvia Aho had two singles.

For Figaro’s Pizza, Bella Newsom, Lena Myhren and Kira Diaz each had a single.

NORTHERN WISHES 15, FIGARO'S PIZZA 4

Northern Wishes mercied Figaro’s Pizza 15-4 in five innings.

Mattila again was the winning pitcher, striking out five.

Lena Myhren took the loss for Figaro's Pizza, with Trinity Rajala coming is as relief. Myhren and Rajala combined for five strikeouts.

For Northern Wishes, Kim Aho had a double and a single, Peterson, Sylvia Aho, Naomi Frahm and Kaydee Archambeau all had two singles.

For Figaro’s Pizza, Myhren had a double and a single and Newsom had a single.

GOLD STANDARD 6, SUPERIOR SERVICE 5

Gold Standard defeated Superior Service 6-5 in Lake Linden.

Ashlyn Steves was the winning pitcher for Gold Standard. She struck out eight along the way.

For Gold Standard, Taylor Goldsworthy had two doubles and two singles. Kali Demars had three singles, and Ashlyn Steves had a double.

For Superior Service, Molly Bugni had a double and a single, and Raili Marcotte and Mackenzie Ekdahl each had two singles.

GOLD STANDARD 21, SUPERIOR SERVICE 7

Gold Standard defeated Superior Service 21-7 in the nightcap.

Olivia Shank was the winning pitcher for Gold Standard. She struck out seven.

Josie Heinonen and Raegan Moyle combined for the loss for Superior Service.

For Gold Standard, Goldsworthy and Demars each had two doubles and two singles. Shank had a double and three singles to help herself.

Steves had a double and two singles, and Teegan Miller had three singles.

For Superior Service, Gracie Moyle had two singles and Heinonen had a double.

On Wednesday, Gold Standard and Figaro’s Pizza will play a doubleheader make up game at the Boneyard. The first game will start at 5:30 p.m. and the second game at approximately 7:15 p.m.
