Valley Raceway to host the U.P. 2-Stroke Championship and AMA State Championship Weekend

CRYSTAL FALLS -- The unmistakable sound of two-stroke motorcycles will once again echo across the Upper Peninsula as Valley Raceway hosts the U.P. 2-Stroke Championship and AMA State Championship Weekend Aug. 21-23 in Crystal Falls.

The three-day event combines championship motocross racing with a celebration of motorcycle heritage, bringing together riders and fans from throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and the Midwest for one of the region’s premier amateur racing weekends.

The weekend begins Friday evening with the debut of the Flying Iron U.P. 2-Stroke Bike Show, which is a judged showcase celebrating the motorcycles that have shaped generations of motocross and off-road racing. Unlike a traditional bike show, Flying Iron welcomes everything from professionally restored classics to race-worn machines that continue to compete today.

“Flying Iron is about the stories behind the bikes,” said Valley Raceway owner Eric Uren. “Some of these motorcycles have won championships, been passed down through families, or are still being raced every weekend. We wanted to create an event that celebrates the people and machines that built our sport while giving everyone a reason to come together before the racing begins.”

Saturday will feature the U.P. 2-Stroke Championship, highlighted by expanded two-stroke-only racing classes alongside Valley Raceway’s regular motocross program. Riders will compete for championship honors in classes ranging from 125cc and Open to Vintage, B, C, and age divisions.

The weekend concludes Sunday with the AMA State Championship, where riders will compete to earn the prestigious title of Michigan AMA State Champion in their respective classes.

This is more than just a race, as the event is designed as a destination weekend for racers, families, and motorsports enthusiasts. Attendees can enjoy camping, concessions, vendors, family-friendly activities, and Valley Raceway’s hillside spectator area, which provides panoramic views of much of the motocross course.

The addition of Friday’s Flying Iron Bike Show reflects Valley Raceway’s continued commitment to building a stronger motocross community by creating experiences that extend beyond race day.

“Motocross has always been about more than what happens on the track,” Uren said. “It’s about the friendships, the camping, the stories, and the passion people have for these motorcycles. We want this weekend to celebrate all of that.”

The event is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and is expected to draw competitors from across the Upper Midwest.
