Two young athletes from Keweenaw Jiu Jitsu Academy continued their impressive competitive season this past weekend, demonstrating grit, determination, and steady improvement on the tournament mats.

Mia Taylor competed in a challenging bracket, battling through two hard-fought matches against tough opponents.

One of the highlights of her performance was a well-executed double-leg takedown, a technique she has been diligently developing in training. While the results only tell part of the story, her effort and resilience were evident throughout the day, proving that heart and perseverance are among her greatest strengths.

Myles Baril also put together an outstanding performance by testing himself well beyond his comfort zone. In addition to competing in his own two divisions, he elected to move up an age bracket to gain additional experience against older competitors.

Over the course of just one hour, Baril competed in six matches, earning one gold medal and two silver medals. His willingness to seek out difficult challenges reflects the academy's philosophy that growth comes from embracing tough competition.

"Our goal isn't simply to collect medals," said Keweenaw Jiu Jitsu Academy head coach Stan Myaskovskiy. "It's to continually improve, learn from every match, and develop the confidence that comes from testing yourself against quality opponents. Mia and Myles both embodied that mindset this weekend."

With another tournament already on the calendar, the young competitors have little time to celebrate. The team has returned to training and is preparing for next weekend's event in Detroit, where they hope to build on the lessons learned from this latest competition.

For Keweenaw Jiu Jitsu Academy, each tournament represents another opportunity for its students to grow both as athletes and as individuals. This weekend, Taylor and Baril once again proved they are willing to step onto the mats, challenge themselves, and continue the pursuit of improvement.
