MENOMINEE -- The Calumet Copper Kings football team held the Menominee Maroons to just eight points in the first half, and even knotted things up in the third quarter, but could not keep the Maroons from finding the end zone twice more in a 22-8 loss Friday night on the road.
Brody Daigneau put the Maroons on the board first in the opening quarter when he caught a 21-yard pass from Dylan Beal. A two-point conversion later, Menominee led 8-0.
That score held into the third quarter before Tyler Halonen got Calumet on the board with a 5-yard run. After a two-point conversion, the game was tied at 8-8.
Menominee regained the lead on a 31-yard touchdown run by Jackson Myszak. The conversion failed, but the Maroons led 14-8 at that point.
Beal and Daigneau connected once more in the fourth quarter from 35 yards out. A two-point conversion later, the Maroons held a 14-point lead until the final buzzer.
Calumet ran 53 plays for 170 yards in the game, 124 of them came on the ground. Halonen led the way, running 14 times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Trent Anderson ran 15 times for 40 yards. Kent Koivisto ran four times for 20 yards.
Halonen also was 2-for-5 through the air for 46 yards.
Joe Halonen led the defense with six solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and a sack. Koivisto also had a sack.
