ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Michigan Tech Huskies soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Roosevelt on the road Sunday afternoon. The Huskies dominated possession and tied the game in the second half.
“It was a tough game today against a physical opponent in the pouring rain,” Huskies coach Melissa Kuhar said. “I’m glad we could walk away with a point, even though I would have loved a win. I am still proud of the fight our girls had.
“We came out hot and created so many chances from the first whistle. We just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net."
Kuhar felt that her team found a way to put a full effort together, and that made a huge difference.
"I’m proud of our team putting together a solid 90 minutes despite everything the game threw in our direction," she said. "The Roosevelt GK made some really good saves and kept them in the game. We’ll head back to the drawing board and continue to work on putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Kenna Wisniewski opened scoring 44:00 after first kick with a goal from Karina Estrada.
Michigan Tech's goal was actually an own goal by the Lakers. Sophomore midfielder Sophie Rater tried crossing the ball through the box, and it deflected off a Roosevelt defender and into the net at 60:08.
The Huskies led in shots 33-8, including a 17-5 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman forward AK Puryear and senior midfielder Reilly Lovercheck both had three shots on goal.
Senior midfielder Ryley Winrich, sophomore midfielder Melissa Riley, and Rater each had two shots on target. Michigan Tech also generated 12 corners to three for the home team.
