Jets volleyball flies past Purple Hornets

L’ANSE -- The Jeffers Jets volleyball team continued their winning ways Wednesday with a 3-0 sweep of the L’Anse Purple Hornets. Scores were 25-16, 25-19, and 25-18.
"I am obviously happy with the win. I was able to try some different rotations on our offense, and that went well," said Jeffers coach Joslynn Jukkila .
In the first set, the two teams knotted at three before the Jets pushed out to 13-8 lead. With Kylee Anderson putting up serves the Jets moved to a 20 -11 advantage and an eventual set win.
The second set was much the same as it too was tied at three and went to 13-8 in part due to strong service by Kylee Kangas.Ten points later it was 23-18. Hard hits and good defense put this one away for the Jets.
"The second set was our best one," added Jukkila. "We played well as a team."
An ace by Jeffers Kylee Anderson opened the third set and set the tone for a sweep. A 7-4 lead morphed into a 17-10 lead for the Jets. Isabel Rajala was on the line for the Jets for the set and match win.
Jukkila gave the game ball to new libero Rachel Hill whom she said is working well as she is adjusting to the position.
Leading the offensive charge for the Jets with kills was senior swinger Aili Kinnunen with nine. Anderson and Karissa Rautio both had three.

The Purple Hornets will welcome Wakefield to their gym Wednesday. The Jets will travel to Wakefield on Thursday for an away game.
