CHASSELL -- In the battle of the Panthers Tuesday night, Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Chassell in three sets in the Ed Helakoski Gym in Chassell. Ewen won 25-20, 25-21, and 25-19.
For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had a huge night, racking up 15 kills, a block, three aces and 12 digs, to chip in on all sides of the ball.
Oriana Olson chipped in with four kills, three aces and seven digs. Setting the offense up, Sylvia Aho had one kill, 17 assists, three aces and eight digs.
Lake Linden-Hubbell 3, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 0
LAKE LINDEN -- The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts fought hard, but ultimately fell short in a hard-fought battle against the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes Tuesday in three sets. Lake Linden won 25-23, 25-18, and 25-16.
Hannah Keranen had eight kills and one block to drive the Blue Bolts' offense. Laila Bell had four kills and two blocks.
Defensively, Kiya Kemppainen had 19 digs and eight assists. Ellie Keranen followed with eight digs. She also stayed strong on the service line with eight service points, including two aces.
Dollar Bay plays its next match against Baraga at home Friday.
Houghton 3, Marquette 2
MARQUETTE -- Looking for a much-needed win, the Houghton Gremlins traveled to Marquette Tuesday. They found themselves in a dogfight that needed five sets to determine a winner.
The Sentinels took the first set, 25-18, and the fourth set, 25-23. In between, Houghton won the second and third sets, 25-18 and 25-19.
In the tiebreaker set, the Gremlins jumped all over the Sentinels. They won the set, 15-4 to seal the match win.
