CALUMET -- The Calumet Copper Kings volleyball team continued their winning ways on the volleyball court Thursday with a three-game sweep of the Westwood Patriots (25-12, 25-13 and 25-16).

It was a game that Calumet coach Kate Bonacorsi was able to get all of her players in. Something that is important to her and the regulars.

"It was a team win as I was able to get everybody in," she stated. "In games like this, we are working on sharpening our skills and playing clean volleyball."

The Copper Kings opened the first set with some strong service runs and never looked back. A 5-2 early lead became a 16-9 difference and an eventual set win.

The second was much the same with Calumet’s Briana Antilla leading the charge at the net The sophomore swinger had eight kills and a block. Chloe Cappo and Annie Stafford followed with seven kills and an ace apiece. At 21-11, Coppo was on the line serving, and the Copper Kings were able to finish things off shortly after.

In the third set, the Copper Kings were again dominant. A 4-1 lead quickly turned into a 13 -7 difference. Molly Koivisto posted a service run of four and the Calumet squad led 19-10. They would go on to win the race to 25 with Millie Loukus posting the winning serve. She led the team with five aces.

Despite the loss, Westwood coach Savana Driesenga was not disappointed. She gave her squad an "A" for effort.

"The girls kept their heads up throughout the whole game," she noted. "They fought until the end. I tell them that as long as they are getting better every set, that is an improvement.

"We did just that by scoring 12, 13 and then 15 points in this one, and the girls had fun, especially the seniors as their season winds down."
