ESCANBA -- A fourth-quarter pass from Alex Ison to Brody Levesque was the difference Friday night as the Escanaba Eskymos football team came from behind to defeat the Calumet Copper Kings at home.

With the loss, the Copper King fell to 5-3 on the season, while the Eskymos improved to 3-5.

Ison led the Eskymos' offense effectively at times, going 6-of-13 for 104 yards and a touchdown, but the Copper Kings defense also forced him into three interceptions.

Escanaba scored first in the opening quarter on a 1-yard run. The kick after was good, and the Eskymos led 7-0 after 12 minutes.

In the second quarter, Calumet scored 20 straight points to jump into the lead.

Tyler Halonen got things started with a 7-yard touchdown run for the score. Oskar Loukus' kick was good, and the game was even at 7-7.

Halonen gave the Copper Kings the lead later in the quarter when he returned an Ison interception 30 yards for the touchdown. Unfortunately, Loukus' point after attempt failed.

Trent Anderson extended Calumet's advantage with a 10-yard scamper into the end zone. After Loukus' kick, the Copper Kings led 20-7.

Escanaba snuck one last score in before half time when Bryce Bichler scored from three yards out. The point after attempt was good, and the Eskymos cut Calumet's lead to 20-14 at the break.

The game remained that way into the fourth quarter when Ison hit Levesque from six yards out to even the game at 20-20. The kick after was good, giving Escanaba the lead they did not relinquish.

Halonen finished 7-of-15 through the air for 95 yards. On the ground, he was even better, running 21 times for 128 yards and a touchdown. He also came up with one of three interceptions.

The other two were made by Loukus and Owen Peterson.

Loukus finished with five catches for 80 yards.

The Copper Kings outgained the Eskymos as a team, 313-211, with 218 of those yards coming on the ground. Calumet was 6-of-13 on third downs and 3-of-5 on fourth downs.
