Lakes football takes home sixth win with big win at Rapid River

RAPID RIVER -- The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes football team traveled to Rapid River Friday looking to remain unbeaten. They did just that, scoring in double figures in the first, second, and third quarters to defeat the Rockets, 58-16.

Forty-four of those points came in the second and third quarters.

Coach Brett Gervais' team split the quarterback duties between Blake Lebo and Brady Axford. Lebo went 2-for-3 for 45 yards, a touchdown, a two-point conversion, and an interception. On the ground, he ran twice for 117 yards along with two touchdowns.

Brady Axford was just 1-for-1, but that throw went for 52 yards and a touchdown. In the running game, Axford ran nine times for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

Tobin Baril ran 13 times for 97 yards, a touchdown and four two-point conversions.

Through the air, Josh Daavettila had just one catch, but it was for 52 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Axford had two catches for 45 yards, a touchdown, and a two-point conversion.

Daavettila also had two sacks on defense. Bradyn Bykkonen recovered a fumble during a kickoff.

Up next

Lakes are now 6-0 and play at home next Saturday against Forest Park (5-1). Rapid River is now 3-3 and plays Stephenson (2-4) next Friday night in Rapid River.
