CHASSELL -- The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes closed out September with their sixth win in a row. It happened Monday against the Chassell Panthers with scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-7.

With the sweep, the Lakes enter October at 10-3.

"We had good movement all night," said Lakes coach Alyssa Roose. "The second and third sets were better than the first, but I thought we covered the floor well."

That defensive coverage coupled with a strong offensive swing led to a six-point win in the opening set. This included five kills by Addeline Schmidt.

Add to that three kills by her in the second set. It was Chassell’s best set as they played their opponent closely for more than half the set. That included trailing by two at 11-9 and then through three at 18-15 and 19-16 before the Lakes outscored them 9-0 for the set win.

Ella Schneiderhan was on the line for the Lakes’ last four tallies.

By set three, the depth of both benches was clearly evident. The Lakes opened to a 15-2 lead with Payton Goldsworthy, Ashlyn Steves, and Schmidt leading the charge. Schmidt had two aces in her service run of five.

"I think we were worn out in that initial set," said Chassell coach Kim Aho. "We have only one or two subs on the bench each game, and after playing them (Lakes) close in the first and second sets, we just did not have much left."

On the other bench, Roose was happy to get all of her bench in.

"It is always good to get the subs in," she added.

The third ended with a 25-7 win for her and her girls.

Elli Kuntze had 13 kills, four aces, and six digs for the Panthers. Teammate Oriana Olson had three kills, one ace and seven digs - all signs of improvement according to their coach.

"We are definitely getting better," Aho stated.
