Rachel Zurek named to Crossover All-Tournament Team

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Michigan Tech Huskies volleyball team's Rachel Zurek was named to the Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team.

Zurek, a senior outside hitter, averaged 4.08 kills per set in the three matches. She tallied 10 kills in a sweep of Findlay, notched 15 kills against Missouri-St. Louis, and added a career-high 28 kills versus No. 22 Indianapolis.

"She showed up big time this week," said Huskies coach Cindy Pindral. "The stats say it, but also with all the intangible things that she brings, she showed up ready to go, very driven and determined.

"Rachel was definitely leading the charge. She just shows up with so much poise and so much joy every single day, which is really admirable. She just loves playing volleyball, and she has so much fun doing it."

Pindral feels that while Zurek plays with passion, it helps that seems to genuinely love volleyball.

"Obviously, success kind of drives the joy sometimes, but she just showed up ready to go, and she was really our driver," said Pindral. "Some of the plays that she was making were awesome. Then her resilience when she would maybe miss one out of bounds or into the block or something like that, she’d be like, 'Give me the ball again.' Which is awesome.

"From a setter-hitter relationship for the setters, like, it's 'Yes, ma’am.' So it was really good for her to have a good weekend like this."

Zurek leads the GLIAC with 342 kills this season, which is sixth in the nation. She is averaging 4.12 kills per set, which is second in the GLIAC and 15th nationally.
