LAKE LINDEN — At the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools’ Board of Education meeting Monday, one faculty member’s resignation was accepted while two individuals have joined the ranks of the faculty.

Jason Erva resigned from his position as industrial arts teacher, but the school hired Mark Aho as a biology, science and math teacher.

The elementary school received new leadership from Lisa Ruhman, who will take on the role of the elementary principal and the grades 6 through 12 assistant principal.

During the public comments section, one of the parents, Danielle Davis, raised concerns again relating to staff retention, bullying, communication between the school and parents and mental health services for the students. Another parent, Beth Krause, also spoke up and wanted to reassure that the parents did not view the board as an adversary.

“We are all Lakes here,” she said.

Parents’ concerns were addressed during this meeting. The board approved Strategic Planning which will create a forum to discuss the issues and construct possible solutions and remedies. Davis was relieved to hear this.

“I’m really excited that they’re moving forward with the Strategic Plan and I can’t wait to work on the things we want to improve,” she said.

The board approved of the bills presented and the salaries of the board. The school district depositories were approved to be Range Bank, Superior National Bank, Michigan Liquid Asset Fund, Torch Lake Federal Credit Union, Huntington Bank and Ameriprise Financial Services.

Other approvals included the transportation of students within the district who live 1.5 miles or further from the school and all students along highways where their safety is concerned and Thrun Law Firm, P.C. was appointed to be the school attorney.

Starting at $2.99/week.
