• Western UP Health Department Meeting. The regular monthly meeting of the Western U.P. Board of Health will be held at 6 p.m. (EST) at the Western U.P. Health Department, 210 N. Moore Street, Bessemer.
July 29
• Scanning Electron Microscopes, 4 p.m. Portage Lake District Library. You’re invited to a program on Scanning Electron Microscopes, with the Michigan Tech Biomedical Engineering (Smitha Rao) Team. The program will take place either at the library, or the adjacent downtown pier.
• Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is hosting one additional public information session on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 5th & Elm Coffee House in Hancock (426 Quincy Street). Join the foundation next to better understand the 2025 Elder Nutrition Services millage proposal, explore the community’s unmet needs and ask any questions you may have.
• Stronger Together Fundraiser. 6-9 p.m. Small Craft, Hancock. The Stronger Together event at Small Craft will raise money to help pay off crippling medical debt owed by local residents. There is no official charge, but organizers are requesting a $20 donation. The evening will include live music, a silent auction, guest speakers, drinks at Small Craft and local food trucks. 100% of your donation goes to wiping out undue medical debt in our community.

• Houghton Summer Slam Concert, 7 p.m. Houghton Downtown Pier. Tonight’s Good Times Music Downtown Houghton Summer Slam Concert will feature The Jana Nyberg Group.
The performance will take place on the Houghton Downtown Pier. Please bring a chair and any refreshments you’d like to enjoy.
Aug. 1
• The Friends of the L’Anse School/Public Library are having a Huge Used Book Sale on 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Items for sale include Fiction & Nonfiction Adult and Juvenile books, DVDS, music CDs, jigsaw puzzles, and audiobooks. This sale is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. Proceeds of the sale go toward programming at the library. The Friends of the Library put on the Summer Reading Programs and other programs throughout the year.
• Stuff the Bus 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Houghton Walmart. STUFF THE BUS (a really big bus will be parked at Walmart) Here’s an opportunity for our community to help families in need of supplies for their children in preparation for school. Donations will continue throughout August. Sponsored by Copper Country Angel Mission, The Salvation Army, Bread of Life Center and Walmart. Help kids in need succeed.

• Houghton High School Alumni Association will host a Pancake Breakfast, with Silent Pie & gift basket auction,8:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Houghton High School. Menu includes, choice of traditional, blueberry & Shelby’s Finnish pancakes, Vollwerth’s sausage, fruit & beverage, $10 donation & tickets are available from the pancake breakfast alumni committee members, B & B Bar and at the door. The pie auction will feature pies baked by Alumnus representing class eras, and gift baskets with a variety of items
