LANSING — The Michigan State Police (MSP) are seeking public support in the American Association of State Troopers’ “Best Looking Cruiser Contest.” Public voting is now open, and MSP’s “Blue Goose” is hoping to earn a top spot.

The “Blue Goose”, a 2024 Dodge Durango patrol vehicle, was photographed in front of the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits of Mackinac. To vote for the Blue Goose, visit statetroopers.org. Public voting will close on July 11, and is limited to one vote per device.

“This year’s photograph was taken right here in the Upper Peninsula, highlighting the beauty of Upper Michigan, the Mackinac Bridge, and the iconic Michigan State Police cruiser,” said Lieutenant Ben Eckola. “The MSP’s cruiser is unmistakable here in Michigan, featuring its single red ‘bubble’ style overhead light which has been a tradition since 1965. As the only state police agency nationwide still using this vintage design, the distinctive red light and unique blue color are key features that make MSP’s patrol cars stand out.”

“Since this year’s photograph was taken right here in the UP, it also honors the troopers and motor carrier officers who serve here, as well as our fellow citizens of the UP who we proudly serve,” Eckola continued.

“Winning this contest would be an honor for MSP, recognizing not only our iconic patrol car but also the dedication of our troopers, motor carrier officers, and staff who work every day to provide the highest quality law enforcement and public safety services across Michigan,” he added.

Also competing is Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol, whose photo includes Miss America. Mississippi Highway Patrol’s entry includes a mustang in front of two building-length murals, and Nebraska State Patrol shows a state trooper vehicle set against a starry night sky.

This is the 12th annual Best Looking Cruiser Contest. State police and highway patrols compete every year in this now nationwide event. One of the competition’s goals is to encourage community members to support and interact with law enforcement in a positive manner. In 2024, MSP took ninth place in the contest.

The top 13 photos, as voted by the public, will be featured in the 2026 “America’s Best Looking Trooper Cruisers” calendar. The first place submission will earn the cover spot. The net proceeds from the calendar sales will benefit the American Association of State Troopers Foundation, which provides educational scholarships to dependents of member troopers.

Starting at $3.50/week.
